Flights canceled due to extreme winter weather east coast USA and Canada

Update 5 January 2018 11:30 am: At this moment a state of emergency has been declared in many cities on the east coast of the US, due to the persistant snowfall and a big power outage in many cities. All flights from, to and via JFK Airport and LaGuardia Airport in New York have been canceled. In the Canadian province Nova Scotia, more than 87,000 cases of power outages have been reported. It is expected that the power supplies will be restored on Sunday 7 January 2018. We advise travellers to consult the airline's website for the most current flight information.

Today, thousands of flights from and to airports on the east coast of the US are cancelled due to very low temperatures and persistent snowfall. The extreme weather can possibly also cause a power outage in some cities on the east coast.
At this moment more than 3500 flights at several airports have already been cancelled:

• Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey
• Logan International Airport in Boston
• LaGuardia Airport in New York
• John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York
